Golden Wings and Blue Skies - Custom Crane Mosaic in Dubai
A spectacular depiction of a crane in glass, complete with its ‘crown’ for a Dubai villa. Soaring through the ‘clouds’ in all its magnificence.
The Story of This Crane
A client in Dubai reached out to MEC Artworks after viewing our website. They were interested in a piece of nature-inspired mosaic artwork for their residence.
The mosaic was intended for the main wall in the foyer area of their space. Our client decided on an animal mosaic.
After reviewing the crane mosaics created by MEC Artworks, they chose a crane as the main subject of their artwork.
The crane is a majestic bird with a pair of strong, beautiful wings. Our design team decided to show the crane in flight so that its wings could be displayed to their best advantage.
The bill, legs, and ‘crown ’-each detail was meticulously designed.
The Vision Behind This Mosaic
The bird mosaic was to be installed on the front-door-facing wall of the foyer area.
It would be the first thing anyone who walked in through the front door would see. Thus, it was to set the ‘tone’ of the house.
Our client required something eye-catching but elegant. The ‘feel’ of that artwork would be essentially the feel of the whole space.
MEC Artworks was being given a big responsibility, and we took it up proudly.
As the crane was to be shown in flight, our designers thought of displaying the sky in the backdrop.
The sky shown was a whimsical depiction with several shades of blue, including Light Cerulean, Cobalt, Azure, Midnight Blue, and Navy Blue.
Cloud-like curves were also added to the sky with dashes of Gold here and there to make the overall effect more royal.
The completed mosaic shows a glorious crane flying through the blue skies—a combination of a life-like depiction of a bird with a whimsical backdrop.
Design and Development
The Initial Idea
The initial idea was of a bird mosaic, which evolved into a crane after our client viewed crane mosaics previously crafted by MEC Artworks. Life-like depictions and fantasy were mixed in the execution of this art piece.
The Design Pattern
Our client wanted a real depiction of the crane as it is a glorious creature to behold. Each feature of the bird was created in the most natural colours possible. The background, on the other hand, was made fanciful with a mix of shades and patterns.
Colour Palettes
A variety of hues were used in crafting this mosaic. Grey-Blue and Creamy White with a Gold outline were used for the main body of the crane. The bill was done in Gold. A startling Ruby-Red ‘crown’ was the finishing touch to this magnificent creature. Light Cerulean, Cobalt, Azure, Midnight Blue, and Navy Blue were used for the background.
The Glorious Crane in the Skies
The completed design pattern was handed over to our Italian-trained team of artisans who set to work to prove their mettle.
Each glass tessera was hand-cut specifically to contribute to the putting together of this bespoke custom mosaic.
The crane was the focal point of the mosaic artwork. Nestled in the centre of the mosaic, in flight with its wings stretched out.
The bird’s body was crafted in Grey-Blue and Creamy White. A row of golden feathers was added to make the crane more worthy of its ‘magical’ backdrop.
The bill and the legs were created in Gold. A small section of black was added at the front of the head, with the eyes in the middle. A Ruby-Red patch was made to depict the ‘crown’.
Free rein was given to our artisans’ creative genius for the background of this artwork. A fantastic mix of Blue shades was used to make it. Touches of Gold were added to make the overall effect more arresting.
Curve-like patterns were made to give a hint of clouds. Deep Black was also added in the background.
