Greek Key Fan Border Floor Mosaic

The Classical Column Fragment Floor Mosaic sets an Ionic capital and a mythic winged serpent into a broken stone floor field, the kind of classical column floor mosaic that reads as ruin and ornament at once. Each fragment sits inside its own key-pattern border, scattered across pale limestone paving rather than lined up in a single panel.

Composition favors irregular, angular stone shapes fitted together like cracked pavement, with the pictorial fragments placed as accents rather than a continuous scene. A small botanical sprig appears elsewhere on the same floor, giving the eye a second, quieter motif to land on between the larger figures.

The piece is built from hand cut stone and marble tesserae, sized unevenly so the surface keeps a worn, antique texture instead of a flat, uniform grid. Ochre, rust, teal and slate chips carry the color, set against the neutral cream stone that makes up most of the floor.
