A Mosaic in Belize—Bringing Geoff McFetridge’s Art to Life in Glass Tiles
The vision of renowned artist Geoff McFetridge, realized through precision and passion, brought to life in a stunning pool mosaic.
The Art of Creation: A Belize Pool Mosaic Inspired by Geoff McFetridge
A striking design, pixel-perfect mosaic, and a meticulous quest for the perfect shades of blue came together in this extraordinary project. The mosaic, inspired by artist Geoff McFetridge, was commissioned for a pool at Blancaneaux Lodge in Belize, a hidden paradise owned by Francis Ford Coppola.

Artistic Vision
Canadian artist Geoff McFetridge—known for clean lines and abstract forms—conceived a design based on synchronized swimmers, capturing fluid movement and rhythm. Collaborating with Blancaneaux Lodge’s creative director Martin Krediet, Geoff’s sketch was converted into a precise digital mosaic grid, setting the stage for its transformation into glass tile.
Storytelling Angle
The project began when Martin spotted Geoff’s signature style—bold, minimalistic shapes that still evoke emotion. After an impromptu visit to the lodge, Geoff walked the site, absorbed the light and colors of the jungle, and set to work. His initial sketch featured overlapping silhouettes of swimmers, interlocking in a way that would allow water to ripple through the design. Over several revisions, the concept evolved: lines became more refined, curves more pronounced, and the color palette shifted toward multiple tones of blue to reflect the pool’s water under Belizean sun.
The Perfect Blues:
Color Selection & Fine-Tuning
Matching digital design to glass hues was tricky—blues looked vibrant digitally but muted underwater or glaring in sun. We tested small tile patches in shallow water under daylight to observe behavior. Then replaced royal blues with cooler navy and brightened sky blues about 10 %. After tweaks, nine blues—from near-black indigo to pale cerulean—were chosen; deeper tiles add depth, lighter ones shimmer like waves.

The Final Reveal
The Mosaic Comes to Life
From the first tile set, the pool floor came alive: daylight makes the blues shift and shimmer, evoking synchronized swimmers beneath the surface, while every vantage—loungers, veranda, or hillside—reveals Geoff’s abstract forms as a living artwork. Covering over 200 sq ft with 10,000+ tiles, the mosaic transforms under hydraulic LED lights at night—deeper blues recede as pale tiles glow, turning the pool into a luminescent stage.
