The Monarch butterfly was chosen to be imitated in this project as its flaring colours provide great opportunities for play with colour and shades.
Our client, Jake, also wanted some colours and designs that would uplift the sombre-shaded decor of their living room.

The Design Process of This Mosaic
The design and development of this bespoke glass mosaic butterfly art was immensely enjoyed by our designers as Jake allowed full rein to their creativity for the crafting of this mosaic.
The Basis of the Design
The basis of this glass mosaic design was the Monarch butterfly. The colour combinations found on its wings formed the main colours used in this mosaic. Details and colours were then added to it.
Visualization
The layout of this luxury home décor featuring a handcrafted mosaic butterfly was then created. Digital 2D and 3D renders were made. Each detail in the images was kept similar to a real specimen of the Monarch butterfly. Colours and shades were experimented with to get a feel of how it would look in the real wall art.
Colour Palettes
The monarch butterfly mainly displays three contrasting colours, which are Orange, Black and White. Our designers broadened the range to add a few more shades of orange, like Pumpkin orange, Rust and Coral. Splashes of Sky blue and Ocean blue were also added for a more vibrant effect.
The Crafting of This Butterfly
The next step was the crafting of this bespoke glass mosaic butterfly art. Our design team handed over the project to our team of Italian-trained craftsmen.
In a recent project of a nature-inspired kitchen backsplash, our client specifically requested the addition of butterflies to their nature mosaic art, which was also beautifully delivered by our team.
Mesh sheets were prepared in the exact dimensions requested by our client for their luxury villa wall art. Each detail, from wings to antennae to the body parts of the Monarch butterfly, was kept identical to the real specimen in the mesh sheet layout.
Each tesserae was cut specifically to fit into the butterfly pattern. The antennae and legs were done in black. The wings were filled in with the range of shades in orange that had been selected earlier.
Splashes of Sky and Ocean blue were added to the wings to give this mosaic a distinctive look.
